Abstract

Background: Free radicals can be the cause of degenerative diseases. Free radicals can be prevented using antioxidants. Ganitri leaves and Japanese papaya leaves contain flavonoids which are useful as antioxidants. The combination of two or more types of plants that contain antioxidants is possible to produce a higher antioxidant potential. Research purposes: To determine the antioxidant activity of the combination of aquades extract of ganitri leaves and ethanol-aquades extract (80:20) of Japanese papaya leaves. Research methods: Phytochemical tests were carried out using test tubes and TLC. Antioxidant activity test was carried out using the ABTS method. Vitamin C as a comparison, a single extract and a combination of extracts (1:1), (1:2), and (2:1) were made at a concentration of 2; 4; 6; 8 and 10 ppm. The resulting data is the value of IC50. Research result: The results of the phytochemical test for both extracts contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids, saponins and tannins, while the TLC test showed that both extracts contained flavonoids. The results of the antioxidant activity test showed that the IC50 value of vitamin C, ganitri leaf distilled water extract, ethanol-aqueous extract (80:20) of Japanese papaya leaves, combinations (1:1), (1:2) and (2:1) were 0, 94; 27,092.95; 4.45; 55.27; 440.62; and 19.31ppm. Conclusion: The combination of aquadest extract of ganitri leaves and ethanolaqueous extract (80:20) of Japanese papaya leaves 2:1 have the highest antioxidant activity. Suggestion: Further research is needed using other methods and toxicity tests are carried out.
