Abstract

Background. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease caused by the body's metabolic system being unable to produce insulin, a hormone that decreases blood sugar levels. Through self-management, DM patients strive to control their disease and avoid unwanted complications. Objective, To describe self-management in patients with Diabetes Mellitus patients. Method, This study utilized a qualitative descriptive research method. The population for this study consisted of 130 DM patients (total sampling) in the Diabetic Association at RSUD Hj. Anna Lasmanah Banjarnegara. Results, The study's findings showed that the majority of respondents (73.8%) were in the age category of 46–65 years, with a total of 96 respondents. The study also found that women dominated the sample, with 98 female respondents (75.4%). Furthermore, the longest suffering category was those who had been affected for less than 10 years, with a total of 75 respondents (57.7%). The study found that 67 respondents (51.5%) demonstrated good self-management skills. Conclusion, Patients with Diabetes Mellitus at RSUD Hj. Anna Lasmanah of Banjarnegara predominantly exhibit good self-management practices.
