Abstract

Background: Pre-eclampsia is a significant cause of maternal mortality, affecting 2% to 5% of pregnant women. Objective: To investigate the relationship between various factors: such as age; education level; parity; gestational age; history of chronic diseases (DM, HT); BMI; history of pre-eclampsia; twin pregnancies; pregnancy spacing; and the incidence of pre-eclampsia at RSI Banjarnegara. Method: This study was a case-control design with a retrospective approach. The population was all pregnant women with pre-eclampsia who gave birth at RSI Banjarnegara from January to December 2021, for a total of 259 cases. The researchers randomly selected a total of 144 cases using a random sampling technique. The statistical analysis employed the chi-square test. Result: The study identified several risk factors associated with the incidence of pre-eclampsia, including maternal age <20 years or >35 years, low education level (elementary, junior high), primigravida (first-time pregnancy), gestational age <37 weeks or >40 weeks, history of chronic diseases (DM, HT), BMI >27 kg/m2 (indicating obesity), and pregnancy spacing <2 years or >5 years. Conclusion: When these risk factors coexist, the probability of pre-eclampsia was higher. Recommendation: Future researchers are encouraged to conduct more comprehensive studies with higher-quality instruments and broader coverage to examine other factors that may contribute to the incidence of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women. Expanding the scope of research may lead to a better understanding of the condition and improve maternal healthcare.
