Abstract
Background, Health Literacy is closely related to chronic disease and has been widely associated with the incidence of Non Communicable Disease (NCD) such as diabetes mellitus. They generally have less knowledge about their disease, exhibit inadequate self- care and have poor health outcomes. Self Care becomes very important in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Self Care is one of the self-management of people with diabetes mellitus and is very necessary to get adequate glycemic control Objectives This study is to determine the relationship between health literacy and self care. Method,This research was an observational study with a cross sectional design. The research was conducted fromMay8 to May 12, 2023 with a total sample of 40 respondents. The Sample were taken by total sampling method. Data collection was carried by questionnaire. Data were processed with SPSS and analyzed with the Chi-square statistical test. Result,The results showed that there is a relationship between Health Literacy (p <0.001) with Self Care in Diabetes Mellitus patients. In conclusion, there is a relationship between Health Literacy and Self Care in DiabetesMellitus patients with a P value = 0.001 < α 0.05. Recommendations For further researchers,it could be develop with different variables or indicators related to Diabetes Mellitus.
