Abstract

Background based on the number of elderly people in Kebumen Regency is 1,361,913 (13.81%) of the total population. The problem that often occurs in the elderly is memory impairment. Memory impairment is a gradual decline in cognitive function that often occurs in the elderly. One of the treatments for memory impairment in the elderly is using crossword puzzle therapy. The purpose is to provide an overview of family nursing care at the developmental stage of the elderly with memory impairment using crossword puzzle therapy at Pekuncen Village, Sempor District. This research uses a descriptive method, with a case study approach. The data are obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The subject of the case study is a family with a developmental stage of the elderly who experienced memory impairment. The results of the case study based on the results of the assessment of the 3 assisted families were known to have a nursing problem, namely memory impairment. The intervention and implementation carried out is by doing crossword puzzle therapy for a week with a frequency of 5 meetings. The results of the evaluation after doing crossword puzzle therapy for 5 meetings with 3 families showed that crossword puzzle therapy could be delivered at the developmental stage of an elderly family to improve cognitive function in the elderly. Recommendation of crossword puzzle therapy is an effective way to improve cognitive function in the elderly.
