Abstract

Background, Pain is a complaint that is often done by the community, so they do self-medication. In this self-medication practice, people use analgesic class of drugs to relieve pain. The level of knowledge is an important factor in realizing the proper use of pain relievers in self-medication practice. Objectives, to determine the relationship between the characteristics of respondents including gender, age, level of education, occupation, economy with the level of knowledge of analgesics. Methods, descriptive research using cross sectional design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The sample used is 100 respondents. This level of knowledge is measured using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the Chi square test and ordinal logistic regression test. Results, the level of analgesic knowledge in the respondents in the poor category was 37 respondents (37%), 23 respondents (23%) good enough, and 40 respondents (40%) in the good category. The chi square results show that there is a significant relationship between age (p=0.000), education (p=0.000), employment (p=0.000), income (p=0.002), and level of knowledge (p>0.05) and there is no relationship between gender and level of knowledge (p=0.995). Conclusion, there is a relationship between age, education, occupation and economy with the level of analgesic knowledge and there is no relationship between gender and the level of analgesic knowledge. Recommendation, further research needs to be carried out using a larger sample, in order to get better results.
