Abstract

Background: Patients People with mental disorders (ODGJ) tend to experience relapse due to not taking medication regularly. Factors that influence the recurrence of the disorder are the individual himself, the person in charge of the patient, the environment and family. Family support can help people with mental disorders to keep taking medication as prescribed, and to deal with problems that may arise during treatment. People with mental disorders who get good family support are more likely to adhere to taking medication. Objective: to determine the relationship between family support and adherence to taking medication in People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) in the Working Area of the Alian Health Center Method: The research method is correlational with a cross-sectional approach. The author took data from 125 families of people with mental disorders (ODGJ) who were taken by total sampling. The instrument is a family support questionnaire adopted from previous research which is valid and reliable with a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.948, while the Mars medication adherence questionnaire is also valid and reliable with a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.912. Data analysis used a descriptive test in the form of a frequency distribution table and correlation used the chi square test. Result: The ODGJ family has implemented the 5 right principles of taking medicine. ODGJ get family support in good category (74.4%). ODGJ is in the category of high adherence (71.2%) in taking medication. Conclucion : There is a relationship between family support and adherence to taking medication in People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) in the Working Area of the Alian Health Center (p=0.000) Recommendation: it is expected to be able to intervene to improve adherence to taking medication in ODGJ.
