Abstract

Background: Asthma is a respiratory disease causing bronchial hypersensitivity to airway stimulation and obstruction characterized by shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma in Indonesia is included in the top 10 diseases that cause death. Non-pharmacological actions given to asthma patients are using breathing exercises and sitting positions. One of the breathing exercises and positions that can be taught is forward leaning position therapy (CKD) and pursed lip breathing (PLB) which serves to reduce blockages in asthma patients. Objective: Determine the effectiveness of forward leaning position (CKD) and pursed lip breathing (PLB) in increasing oxygen saturation and lowering RR in asthma patients. Method: The research method used a descriptive method, the collected data process with interviews, observation and documentation. The respondents of this study consisted of 3 patients with asthma. Results: After the technique of leaning forward position (CKD) and pursed lip breathing (PLB) for 3 days, the results of oxygen saturation and respiratory rate (RR) of the three respondents improved from an average of 95% to 100% and an average respiratory rate of 27 x / minute to 22 x / minute. Recommendation: The application of forward leaning position (CKD) and pursed lip breathing (PLB) can be applied as one of the non-pharmacological techniques in asthma patients to increase oxygen saturation and decrease respiratory rate (RR)
