Abstract
Background: Infectious disease is a disease caused by several microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lam.) and papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) can be used as natural medicines because they contain active substances that act as antibacterial The aim of the study: To find out the most effective antibacterial activity of the combination of Moringa leaf extract and papaya seeds against Escherichia coli bacteria which has potential as an antibacterial. Research method: This research is an experimental research using Escherichia coli bacteria. In this study using 96% ethanol solvent with the maceration method. The antibacterial test used the paper disk method with extract concentrations of 10% and 20%. Results: The results of the combined extract of Moringa leaves and papaya seeds had better combined extract activity compared to single extracts of both Moringa leaves and papaya seeds. At concentrations of 10% and 20% the diameter of the inhibition zone was the largest compared to 2:1, but the best activity against Escherichia coli bacteria was a combination of 20% with a ratio of 2:1 with a diameter of inhibition zone of 13.92 ± 0.65. Conclusion: The combination of ethanol extract of moringa leaves and papaya seeds has the best activity in inhibiting Escherichia coli bacteria at a concentration of 20% with a ratio of 2:1 in the strong category. Recommendation: Suggested to carry out further research in the manufacture of preparations as antibacterial and toxicity tests before making antibacterial preparations.
