Abstract

Background: Infectious disease is an important public health problem, especially in developing countries. Acute respiratory tract infections are caused by viruses and bacteria. Antibiotics are drugs used for infections caused by bacteria, if not used wisely they can develop resistance. Research objective: To find out the description of the pattern of prescribing antibiotics in pediatric patients for the treatment of upper respiratory infection at the outpatient pharmacy installation at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital in 2022 period. Research method: This research is non-experimental, which uses a descriptive method for collecting data retrospectively. Sampling used purposive sampling technique and the sample was 270 respondents. In this study, secondary data were taken in the form of notes from medical colleagues. Results: In describing the pattern of prescribing antibiotics, the results showed that the highest number of prescribing antibiotics was diagnosed with upper respiratory infection of the 3rd generation cephalosporin class cefixime 129 (47.78%), cephalosporin 1st generation cefadroxil 68 (25.18%), and the penicillin amoxicillin group 43 (15, 92%). Meanwhile, bronchitis of the third generation cephalosporin class cefixime 9 (3.34%) and first generation cephalosporin cefadroxil 4 (1.48%), pharyngitis of the penicillin amoxicillin 2 group (0.74%), sinusitis of the penicillin amoxicillin group 5 (1.85%) , as well as pneumonia of the third generation cephalosporin class cefixime 7 (2.59%) and penicillin amoxicillin 3 group (1.12%). Conclusion: a sample of 270 prescriptions for upper respiratory infection patients based on age, namely the age range from 2-5 years, 157 data (58.15%). Based on gender, 143 data were boys (53%) and 127 data were girls (47%). Based on the type of disease, the most common ARI was ARI, 88.89% (240). Based on the pattern of prescribing the antibiotic drug, the results obtained from 270 patients with third generation cephalosporin cefixime 129 (47.78%). Recommendation: Further research is needed regarding the rationale for prescribing antibiotics at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital.
