Abstract

Background: Diarrhea is a discharge with dilute consistency in a day can be more than the normal limit. Diarrhea is an endemic disease that can cause Extraordinary Events (KLB) and mortality rates continue to increase in Indonesia, especially in children under five. One of the factors causing diarrhea in toddlers is nutritional status. The purpose of the study: To determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of diarrhea in children under five at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Research method: This study is an analytical observational study with a retrospective approach. Sampling using pruposive sampling techniques and obtained a sample of 80 respondents. Data collection using baseline data using WHO-NCHS standard body mass index (BB/U) measures. The tool used to see the prevalence of diarrhea and non-diarrhea is secondary data by looking at medical records and doctor's diagnoses. Results of the study: The characteristics of toddlers aged 13 months – 24 months 35 toddlers (43.8%), weight 1 kg – 10 kg as many as 52 toddlers (65.0%) and most of them are boys 45 toddlers (56.3%). The nutritional status of toddlers in the category of good nutritional status was 39 toddlers (48.8%). Toddlers aged 1-5 who experienced diarrhea as many as 70 toddlers (87.5%) and those who did not experience diarrhea as many as 10 toddlers (12.5%). The results of the chi-square analysis test obtained the result p volue = (0.002). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of diarrhea in children under five at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: To provide health counseling to residents, especially mothers and families to increase nutritional intake from the prenatal period to 2 years of children's lives so that the cause of diarrhea is no longer a problem.
