Abstract

Background: Infectious diseases are still the most common cause of death in the post neonatal period. In 2021, pneumonia/ARI will still be the most common cause of death in the post-neonatal period, namely 14.4% of deaths due to pneumonia and 14%. The high incidence of ARI in toddlers is caused by several factors, one of which is poor nutritional status in toddlers. Objective: To determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) in toddlers at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital Methods: This study is an analytic observational study with a retrospective approach. Researchers collected data from medical record books diagnosed with ISPA from the results of a doctor's examination which included weight, age, gender. Data analysis in this study included univariate analysis (descriptive analysis) and bivariate analysis (hypothesis testing analysis). Results: Characteristics Toddlers are mostly male (63.4%), and aged 31-59 months (53.8%). Toddlers with good nutritional status (68.8%). Toddlers experiencing Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) (79.6%). There is a relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in toddlers at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital (p=0.000). Conclusion: The better the nutrition of toddlers, the lower the potential for experiencing Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). Recommendation: It is expected to focus on counseling for mothers who have toddlers so that they always prepare a balanced food menu and provide adequate nutritional intake for their toddlers so that toddlers are not susceptible to ISPA.
