Abstract

Background: Nurse plays a vital role in patient care, spending considerable time interacting with patients. The demands of their tasks can be never-ending, leading to a high workload. Consequently, nurses may experience reduced rest and disturbed sleep quality. Poor sleep quality can have adverse effects on a nurse's performance during their service. Purpose: To investigate the potential relationship between nurses' workload and their sleep quality. Method: This study was a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach and a non-experimental correlational study. Result: The study findings indicated a strong relationship between nurses' workload and sleep quality, as evidenced by a p-value of 0.009 (which is less than the significance level of 0.05). The correlation coefficient of 0.455 suggests a very strong positive correlation between workload and sleep quality. Additionally, the study reveals that 59.4% of nurses experience poor sleep quality. Conclusion: There was a significant proportion of nurses experience a high workload and suffer from poor sleep quality, and these two factors were closely related. Recommendations: Given the impact of workload on sleep quality, further researchers can conduct more focused studies to explore specific solutions aimed at stabilizing nurses' workload and enhancing their sleep quality. Implementing such solutions may lead to improved overall well-being and the performance of nurses during patient care.
