Abstract

Background: Arumanis mango leaves (Mangifera indica L) and taro leaves (Colocasia esculanta L) are plants that have potential as antibacterial and can be used as an alternative to treat infectious diseases caused by bacteria. Arumanis mango leaves contain secondary metabolites including flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, polyphenols, tannins and saponins, and taro leaves contain secondary metabolites in the form of saponins, tannins, flavonoids, formic acid, glucosides, citric acid and several minerals. Secondary metabolites that have potential as antibacterial are flavonoids and tannins. Research Purposes: To determine the antibacterial activity test of the combination of methanol extract of arumanis mango leaves (Mangifera indica L) and taro leaves (Colocasia esculanta L) against Escherichia coli bacteria. Research Methods: Antibacterial testing used the disc paper method, identification of compounds using test tubes and TLC tests. The concentration series of extract combinations used were 6.25%; 12.5%; and 25%. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 with the One-Way ANOVA test. Research result: The results of the antibacterial test of the combination of arumanis mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L) and taro leaf (Colocasia esculanta L) which had the highest diameter of the inhibition zone were at a concentration of 6.25% (1:1) of 5.95 mm which was included in the medium category, the concentration 12.5% (1:2) of 4.78mm is in the weak category, and at a concentration of 25% (2:1) of 5.17mm is in the medium category. Conclusion: Single extract of arumanis mango leaves and taro leaves with a concentration of 6.25%; 12.5%; 25% and a combination of extracts at a ratio of 1:1. 1:2, 2:1 have potential antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria. Recommendation: Further research needs to be done by adding the number of extract combinations.
