Abstract

Background: Free radicals are defined as molecules containing one or more electrons which are highly reactive and can cause cell damage or death.Free radicals can be treated with the use of antioxidants. Ganitri and soursop leaves are plants that produce a source of antioxidants, one of which is flavonoids. The combination of one or more plants allows for higher antioxidant activity. Research purposes: To determine the antioxidant activity of the combined ethanol extract of soursop leaves (Annona muricata L) and ganitri leaves (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb) using the DPPH method. Research methods: This research was started with test tube and TLC. Antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH method. Vitamin C as a comparison, a single extract and a combination of extracts (1:1), (1:2), and (2:1) were made at a concentration of 2; 4; 6; 8 and 10 ppm for Vitamin C and concentrations of 20;25:30;35;40 ppm. The data generated from the antioxidant activity test is the IC50 value. Research result: Test tube results showed that both extracts contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins and only ganitri leaves contained saponins. The TLC test showed that both extracts contained flavonoids. The results of the antioxidant activity test showed that the IC50 value of vitamin C was 0.433 ppm, the combination of ethanol extract of soursop leaves and ganitri leaves (1:0) 25.7 ppm, (0:1) 8.14 ppm, (1:1) 8.79 ppm, (1:2)12.15 ppm, (2:1) 5.6 ppm. Conclusion:The combination of ethanol extracts of soursop leaves and ganitri leaves has antioxidant activity with the best IC50 value at 2:1 of 5.6 μg/mL in the very strong category. Suggestion: Further antioxidant testing was carried out using an in vivo approach, research and development for various pharmaceutical preparations and further testing was carried out using the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) test.
