Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with a relatively high prevalence and is the leading cause of death worldwide. It can lead to various complications and have a negative impact on health, making prevention through self-care management crucial. Self-care management involves individuals regulating their own behavior to manage their health. Objective: To describe the self-care management practices among patients with hypertension at Posyandu Petanahan Village, Kebumen Regency. Method: This study was quantitative research with a descriptive method. The researcher selected 60 respondents as per the set sample criteria, and the total sampling technique was used. Result: The study findings revealed that out of the 60 respondents, 50 (83.3%) were female, 24 respondents (40.0%) were above 65 years old, 38 respondents (63.3%) had an elementary school education, 54 respondents (90.0%) were married, and 16 respondents (26.7%) were housewives. The average duration of hypertension for the respondents was less than 5 years, with 39 respondents (65.0%) and 34 respondents (56.7%) classified as having hypertension grade I. Self-care management practices among hypertension patients were as follows: 24 respondents (40%) adhered to taking medication as recommended; 41 respondents (68.3%) monitored their blood pressure sufficiently; 28 respondents (46.7%) engaged in sufficient physical activities; 42 respondents (70%) followed a hypertension diet; and the total self-care management among hypertension patients was sufficient for 37 respondents (61.7%). Conclusion: The study concludes that the overall self-care management practices among hypertension patients were sufficient. Recommendation: For future research, it is recommended to explore the factors that influence hypertension self-care management to gain a deeper understanding and improve patient outcomes.
