Abstract

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that causes airflow obstruction in the respiratory tract, which is influenced by a number of environmental and genetic factors, resulting in a variety of symptoms including fatigue, shortness of breath, coughing, sputum production, wheezing, and chest tightness. In COPD patients, inspiratory muscle exercise can improve lung function by increasing inspiratory muscle strength, decreasing shortness of breath, and improving quality of life. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of inspiratory muscle training in reducing the symptoms of COPD patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental study design using a pre-post test control group design. This study's sample included COPD patients who received outpatient care at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, with up to 32 respondents. The t-test was used to analyze the data. Results: The results revealed that doing inspiratory muscle training had a significant effect on lowering symptoms in the intervention group, with a p value <0.05. Conclusion: There is an effect of inspiratory muscle training on reducing symptoms of COPD patients. Recommendations: More research is required to involve a larger number of respondents.
