Abstract

Background: Cesarean section is a relatively high incidence of surgery and every year it has increased in Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen. The problem that often occurs in cesarean section is Surgical Infection Area. The infection can be prevented by administering prophylactic antibiotics. Research Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using prophylactic antibiotics in cesarean section patients at Dr. Soedirman Hospital Kebumen in 2022 including the accuracy of the drug, the accuracy of the dosage and the accuracy of the duration of administration. Research Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study. The sample in this study was medical record data for cesarean section patients for the period July-September 2022 with a total of 100 samples. Research Results: The results showed the appropriate use of prophylactic antibiotics was 79% (79 patients). The effectiveness of normal leukocyte values before surgery was 100.00% and increased after surgery by 23%, and length of stay <3 days was 76.00% and >3 days was 24.00%. The relationship between drug accuracy and leukocyte values resulted in a p value of 0.166 and the relationship between drug accuracy and length of stay resulted in a p value of 0.357. Conclusion: The accuracy of the use of prophylactic antibiotics is mostly appropriate, especially in the type and dose of prophylactic antibiotics used. There was no significant relationship between the accuracy of using the drug and the leukocyte count and the length of stay. Recommendation: The same study regarding caesarean section can be carried out using a prospective cohort method.
