Abstract
Background : The incidence of CRF continues to increase along with the increasing incidence of degenerative diseases like hypertension and DM. CRF patients must get hemodialysis which is always accompanied by a caregiver. The psychological needs of caregivers are often ignored and not fulfilled by health workers, this is because caregivers are not fully planned in patient care management. This can have a negative impact on the treatment process of hemodialysis patients. The caregiver is very likely to face difficulties that have the potential to cause anxiety, stress, depression and maladaptive coping mechanisms. Purpose : To find out psychological changes and coping mechanism in caregivers of patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen. Method : This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The research instrument used DASS (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) with a cronbach's alpha number of 0.91 and a coping mechanism questionnaire with a cronbach's alpha number of 0.985. Taken by means of a total sampling of 150 respondents. Data were processed with SPSS and analyzed with univariate test. Result : There were 47 respondents (31.3%) with very severe anxiety levels, 72 respondents (48%) normal stress levels, 82 respondents (54.7%) normal depression levels, and very adaptive coping mechanisms as many as 69 respondents (46%). Conclusion : The majority of caregivers of hemodialysis patients experience psychological changes in the aspect of anxiety. Then the majority of caregivers use very adaptive coping mechanisms. Recommendation: RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen can improve services that don’t only focus on medical treatment but also on the psychological aspects of both patients and caregivers so that health workers can perform early detection of anxiety, stress, depression in caregivers.
