Abstract

Background: Acne is one of the skin diseases that can reduce a person's selfconfidence. Acne or acne vulgaris is a disease in the form of inflammation of several multiple sebaceous glands caused by the bacterium Propionibacterium acne. Papaya leaves are one type of plant that has potential as an acne treatment. Research Objective: Knowing the anti-acne activity in papaya leaf ethyl acetate fraction cream preparations caused by Propionibacterium acne bacteria and has good dosage quality. Research Method: This study used papaya leaves which were fractionated using ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate fraction of papaya leaves is made in cream preparations with concentration variations of 10%, 15% and 20%. Cream tests include homogeneity test, organoleptic test, pH test, dispersion test, adhesion test, cream type test, viscosity test and preparation stability test. The cream is carried out antibacterial test by the method of sumuran. Research Results: The test results of the cream preparation meet the physical properties standards but the viscosity in formulation 3 does not meet the standards, formulas 2 and 3 do not meet the cream stability test standards. Antibacterial tests show that all formulas have inhibitory power against bacteria. The average measurement of the inhibitory zone in formula 1, formula 2, and formula 3 is 4.99± 0.48 mm, 6.85±0.48 mm and 10.12±1.42 mm, respectively. Conclusion: The formula of cream 1 fraction of papaya leaf leaves meets all the physical characteristics of the preparation. All cream formulas of ethyl acetate fraction of papaya leaves have antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne. Recommendation: Develop research using ethyl acetate fraction of papaya leaves into various preparations and conduct activity tests on other bacteria.
