Abstract

Background: Antibiotics are the most frequently prescribed drugs in children. Improper use of antibiotics can contribute to the occurrence of resistance which causes a decrease in the ability of these antibiotics to treat infections experienced by humans, as a result treatment becomes more difficult. Research objective: to evaluate the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea in the inpatient installation of RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen in 2022. Research Methods: this is a descriptive observational study with qualitative data analysis based on the 2012 World Gastroenterology Organization Global Guidelines and the 2016 Indonesian Pediatrician Association to assess the appropriate use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea. The results of the study: obtained a sample of 70 pediatric patients with acute diarrhea in the inpatient installation of RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen. The patients with the most acute diarrhea were male, 39 patients (55.71%), the most widely used antibiotic was Ceftriaxone (54.29%) and the most used dosage form was injection (91.43%) ). Based on the evaluation of the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea for the criteria of right indication (100%), right drug (100%) and right dose (98.57%). In conclusion, Ceftriaxone and Ampicillin antibiotics are antibiotics that are often used in the treatment of acute diarrhea at Dr.Soedirman Hospital, Kebumen. Recommendations: it is necessary to evaluate the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute diarrheal diseases using the positive method.
