Abstract

Background: Dengue virus is one of the causes of dengue fever which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Nut grass tuber plants contain flavonoid compounds which are known to have activity as insect repellents. Objectives: to determine the repellent activity and the % value of the protective power of 96% ethanol extract and aquadest of sedge grass tubers (Cyperus rotundus L.) Methods: Phytochemical screening was carried out by test tube and TLC. The repellent activity test was carried out using male white rats. The resulting data is % protection power. Results: The results of the phytochemical screening showed that the 96% ethanol extract and distilled water were positive for containing flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The results of the TLC test on 96% ethanol extract and distilled water got an Rf value of 0.71 and the quercetin comparator had an Rf value of 0.81. Ethanol extract 96% of nut grass bulbs with a concentration of 1.5%; 3%; 6% had repellent activity with a protective power percent value of 42.7%, 54.02%, 73.84% and sedge grass tuber aquadest extract with a protective power percent value of 46.34%, 58, respectively. 66%, 72.94% and gave a significant effect (p<0.05). Conclusion: 96% ethanol extract and aquades of sedge tuber at a concentration of 6% had the best repellent effect with a yield of 73.84% and 72.94% respectively in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and was significant with a p<0. 05. Suggestion: It is necessary to carry out further research on repellent activity with other methods and it is necessary to analyze the content of compounds present in 96% ethanol extract and aquadest of sedge grass tubers.
