Abstract

Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronical inflammatory disease of airway and lung. It is characterized by continuous and progressive airflow limitation in response to toxic particles and gases. Symptoms of narrowing airways in COPD are usually due to obstruction of the narrow airways (bronchitis) and of the damage of parenchymal ducts (emphysema) which may vary from one person to another. Non-pharmacological action that can be taken to overcpme COPD is by applying complementary pursed lip breathing therapy Objective: Describing nursing care for patients suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were collection through interview, observation and documentation Results: After having pursed-lip breathing therapy, there was a decrease in respiration rate Recomendation: It is advisable to apply pursed lip breathing in improving the nursing care for COPD patients in ther effort of decreasing their respiration rate
