Abstract
Background: Green betel leaf (Piper betle L) is a medicinal plant that has medicinal properties, one of which is antibacterial and can be used as an alternative treatment for diabetic ulcers. Diabetic ulcers are one of the complications of diabetes mellitus with open wounds on the skin. Compounds that have antibacterial activity in leaves are phenol compounds. Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria cause diabetic ulcers. Objective: To determine the antibacterial activity and determine the concentration of green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L) using 96% ethanol solvent against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers. Research Methods: This study used the diffusion method (paper disc) for antibacterial testing. The media used was NA. Positive control used ciprofloxacin, extract concentration series used 3%, 5% and 7.5%. The diameter of the inhibition zone was observed and then analyzed using the One Way Anova statistical test. Research results: The antibacterial activity test of 96% ethanol extract of green betel leaves (Piper betle L) against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers is 9.37 mm and 7.57 mm at a concentration of 7.5%. Conclusion: ethanol extract of green betel leaf (Piper betle L) has inhibitory power against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers. Recommendations: Can increase the concentration series of green betel leaf ethanol extract, find the minimum kill concentration (MKC) and maximum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in green betel leaf ethanol extract against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that cause diabetic ulcers.
