Abstract
Background: Anemia during pregnancy is one of the indirect causes of maternal mortality. Anemia is characterized by lower-than-normal hemoglobin levels, with iron being a crucial element in hemoglobin production. Iron tablets have a significant impact on raising hemoglobin levels. Objective: This study aimed to describe the increase in hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with anemia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research adopted a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique, and a total of 80 respondents were selected. Data analysis was performed using Excel. Results: After taking iron tablets, pregnant women with anemia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital experienced an increase in their hemoglobin levels, with an average increase of 0.96. Out of the 80 respondents, 66 of them (82.5%) showed an increase, while 14 respondents (17.5%) experienced a decrease due to side effects such as nausea and vomiting. Conclusion: Regular consumption of iron tablets by pregnant women with anemia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital led to an increase in their hemoglobin levels. Recommendation: Future researchers should investigate other foods or beverages that can help increase hemoglobin levels.
