Abstract
Background: Gout is a disease that attacked the joints of the body, such as fingers, heels, toes, elbows, knees, and wrists, causing inflammation and swelling in the affected areas. An alternative therapy that could be easily applied to treat gout was warm water foot soak therapy with a mixture of ginger. Objective: To provide an overview of family nursing care for pain in gout sufferers. Method: The research took the form of scientific writing with case studies and descriptive methods. The data were obtained by observing and interviewing three families at the developmental stage of the elderly on January 7 in Sidamulya Village. Results: The study results focused on three families, namely Mrs. S, Mrs. S, and Mr. B. Mrs. S already had a history of gout several years before, while Mrs. S and Mr. B did not know about gout treatment. The diagnosis revealed ineffective family health management, and the interventions and implementations involved the application of warm water foot soak therapy with a mixture of ginger. During the 6-day nursing care, the results showed an increase in knowledge within the families and a decrease in the gout pain scale in Mrs. S from a pain scale of 8 to 5, in Mrs. S from a pain scale of 8 to 6, and in Mr. B's family from a pain scale of 8 to 5. Recommendation: Warm water foot soak therapy with ginger proved to be an effective non-pharmacological treatment for gout patients.
