Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease that cannot be cured and requires long-term care. Hypertension is one of the diseases with the highest prevalence in the world. Long-term treatment requires adherence, one of the factors determined by knowledge of hypertension. Research Objectives: To determine the relationship between the knowledge level of hypertension and the level of medication adherence of hypertensive patients at the Community Health Center Kebumen 1. Research Methods: A cross-sectional study design which was carried out by purposive sampling with a total of 82 patients as respondents. The research instrument used the HFQ questionnaire to measure knowledge of hypertension and the MMAS-8 questionnaire to measure adherence to take hypertension medication. The research data were analyzed using SPSS statistically with the Chi Square test. Research Results: The research results showed that the low knowledge level was 11%, medium knowledge was 79.3%, and high knowledge was 9.8%. The level of low compliance was 40.2%, moderate compliance was 47.6%, and high compliance was 12.2%. There is a significant relationship between the level of hypertension knowledge and the level of adherence to taking hypertension medication with a p-value of 0.021 (p, 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the knowledge level about hypertension and the level of patient compliance in taking hypertension medication at Community Health Center Kebumen 1. Recommendation: Future researchers should examine the factors that influence medication adherence.
