Abstract

Background: Elderly nurses are tasked with helping to meet the physical, mental, social, cultural and spiritual needs of elderly patients. Currently, 1,199 Indonesian nurses work as elderly nurses in Japan. The demand for fast and precise service can cause a high workload for elderly nurses, thereby triggering work stress. Objective: to identify the relationship of workload with stress level Indonesia nurses who work as elderly nurses in Japan. Research method: This research uses analytical methods with a cross sectional approach. The sample method used snowball, the sample size was 100 Indonesian nurses who worked as elderly nurses in Japan. Research was carried out in Japan covering 6 prefectures, namely Tokyo, Yokohama, Chiba, Okayama, Hyogo, and Osaka in August 2023. The instruments used were workload and stress level questionnaires which had been tested for validity with values of 0.755 and α 0.933. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the Chi Square test. Research results: the majority of women were 65 (65%) respondents, aged 25-35 years were 84 (84%) respondents, DIII nursing graduates were 65 (65%) respondents, 34 (34%) had worked for 3 years. ) respondents and were Muslim as many as 88 (88%) respondents. Univariate analysis found 64 (64%) respondents with moderate workload and 56 (56%) respondents with moderate work stress. The results of the bivariate analysis obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) Conclusion: there is a relationship between workload and work stress of elderly nurses in Japan. Recommendation: Nurses need to have a range of adaptive responses to increased workloads and practice implementing effective stress management.
