Abstract
Background: Elderly (elderly) someone who has reached the age of 60 years and over, in the last phase of life during the aging process. One of the health problems in the elderly is high cholesterol levels. Where the level of blood fat cholesterol that exceeds normal levels. Objective: Describe nursing care at the developmental stage of an elderly family with cholesterol. Methods: This research used a descriptive method and was conducted in 7 meetings. The data collection process was carried out using interview techniques, observation, and physical examination. Respondents consisted of 3 families with one family member having high cholesterol levels. Before health education a pre test was carried out and after health education a post test was carried out. Examination of cholesterol levels was carried out on the day before health education, before administration of red ginger decoction therapy and on the day after health education, and administration of red ginger decoction therapy. Results : After conducting family studies, health education, and demonstrating the administration of red ginger decoction therapy for 7 meetings, a diagnosis of ineffective health care was found. Families are able to recognize problems, families are able to solve problems, families are able to care for family members, families are able to modify the environment, families are able to utilize health facilities. With the result of increasing family knowledge they become more knowledgeable about cholesterol with an average score of 8-9 and a decrease in cholesterol levels from the three families. Conclusion : Health education conducted in families can increase family knowledge.
