Abstract
Background: Clamping and cutting the umbilical cord of a newborn baby is one of the steps in a normal delivery care. This makes the researchers recommend the delay of cord clamping until the cord stops beating as a physiological interventions which is cheap and easy to reduce anemia of an infant in the first 6 months of his life. The fact is that there is still early cord cutting in the healthcare. Objective: Performing midwifery care towards the infant of Mrs. Y by delaying clamping and cutting the umbilical cord until the cord stops beating in private midwifery clinic of Midwife C. Retno Wahyuningsih at Demangsari, Ayah, Kebumen. Methods: This study uses qualitative descriptive method through a case study approach. The subject of research is the of infant Mrs. Y, born on April 26, 2016 at 06.10 pm. This research was conducted on April 26, 2016 up to April 30, 2016. Results: The length of the time in the delay of cord clamping towards Mrs. Y’s infant was 7 minutes, until it was certain that the cord has stopped pulsating. The result of infant hemoglobin levels in the age of one day was 22 gram/dl. The infant didn’t suffer jaundice and the umbilical cord was getting dry within 4 days. Monitoring results of the bleeding at the time of delivery in the third stage was ± 150 cc, 2 hour post partum ± 30 cc, 6 hours post partum ± 25 cc, post partum 1 day ± 20 cc, post partum 4 days ± 10 cc. Conclusion: The optimal time to delay clamping and cutting the umbilical cord until the cord stops beating. The benefit of the delay of clamping and cutting the umbilical cord towards Mrs. Y’s infant is the increase of hemoglobin levels, the prevention of anemia of newborn baby, the optimizing the delivery of oxygen to the baby, the baby's brain growth. The benefits for Mrs. Y was that she could prevent bleeding and increase emotional closeness.
