Abstract

Background: Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants in addition to containing the appropriate composition for infant feeding. WHO recommends breastfeeding children for at least 6 months. After that, children receive solid and semi-solid complementary foods. The oxytocin massage method is one of the alternatives to increase comfort and make mothers more relaxed during the breastfeeding period. The oxytocin massage method can not only increase the volume of breast milk but also stimulate the reflex of milk formation (prolactin reflex) and milk release (let down reflex). The effectiveness of breastfeeding massage provides natural calmness and increases confidence for mothers in the adequacy of meeting their baby's milk needs. Fennel oil is an aromatherapy that has a calming effect. looking at the effects of fennel oil on 34 breastfeeding mothers, the result was that fennel oil positively increased milk production when used for oxytocin massage. Fennel essential oil was shown to contain fatty acids, flavonoids, vitamins, minerals such as calcium (49mg/100g) which are associated with increased milk supply. Objective: Describe ineffective breastfeeding nursing care for breast milk enhancement in mothers using fennel essential oil in postpartum mothers SC RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Method: This paper uses a descriptive approach method with a case study. Data were obtained by means of interviews and observations with subjects of three postpartum mothers. Results: After oxytocin massage therapy for 3 days the breast milk of all respondents increased significantly. Conclusion: Oxytocin massage therapy using fennel essential oil has been shown to be effective for increasing maternal breast milk levels. Recommendation: Ineffective breastfeeding patients are advised to do oxytocin massage using fennel essential oil.
