Abstract
Background: Breast cancer refers to the development of malignant tumours in breast tissue. Family support represents the attitudes and actions within a family aimed at accepting and assisting family members coping with cancer. Quality of life is an individual's overall well-being and their ability to achieve life goals, extend their life expectancy, and maintain a certain standard of living. Objective: To investigate the association between family support and the quality of life among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong hospital. Method: This study was a quantitative research design with a descriptive correlational approach. The study sample consisted of 51 breast cancer patients. Data were collected using family support research questionnaires and quality of life research instruments. Statistical analysis was performed using the Rho-Spearman Test. Result: The study revealed that family support for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy was rated as good by 26 respondents (51.0%), while the quality of life among these patients was deemed sufficient by 29 respondents (56.9%). Conclusion: The statistical analysis, specifically the Spearman-Rho test, demonstrated a significant relationship between family support and the quality of life among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong hospital, with a p-value of 0.002 (α < 0.05). Recommendation: These research findings can serve as valuable additional information and a reference point concerning the factors influencing the relationship between family support and the quality of life for cancer patients, particularly those dealing with breast cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. It is anticipated that this knowledge will contribute to improved support and care strategies for these patients in the future.
