Abstract
Background: Nurses are one of the health workers who can influence the success of services in hospitals. Nurses have a role in maintaining the quality of service and patient safety. Ineffective communication can lead to patient safety incidents. Failure to communicate has been associated with poor quality of collaboration. Effective communication requires the nurse's conscious effort to find ways to help patients and their families communicate thoughts and feelings more effectively. Objective: Knowing the implementation of effective communication by new nurses. Methods: This research is a quantitative descriptive type with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 25 nurses in the Inpatient Room was taken using the total sampling technique. Results: The characteristics of the respondents were mostly 17-25 years old (55%), female (85%), and DIII level of education in Nursing (90%). Most Communication of the nurses are in the good category as many as 15 people (75%), and respondents who have effective communication in the sufficient category are 5 respondents (25%). Conclusion: Most of the nurses at Aghisna Medika Kroya General Hospital have good communication. Recommendation: Nurses are advised to improve communication effectively, especially related to ensuring nurses that the recommendations given are in accordance with how to repeat and read back (repeat back and read back) to the message sender (doctor) and complete documentation of instructions doctor in the form of the SBAR communication sheet.
