Abstract

Background: Hypertension or commonly called high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood pressure above the normal limit of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure more than 90 mmHg. Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that is the leading cause of death globally. Hypertension is characterized by an increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure beyond the normal limit of ≥140/90 mmHg. There are two types of hypertension therapy, which can use pharmacological (medical) an non- pharmacological (herbal) therapy. Non- pharmacological therapy is treatment that is carried out without administering drugs, for example consumsing chayote. Chayote is a fruit that live and grows in subtropical climates. Apart from being food, chayote alsp functions as medicine. Research Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of consumption of chayote in reducing high blood pressure in Prembun Village. Research Method: This study uses the type of Experimental research, which is one of the studies used to find cause-and-effect relationships with Pre- Experimental research design (One Group Pre-Post Test Design). The sampling technique uses total sampling. Research data collection in July 2023 using observation sheets was carried out in Prembun Village with a population of 30 respondents and involved all respondents of posbindu members. Research Results: Before respondents were given chayote decoction there were 18 resondents with Level 2 Hypertension and after being given treatment consuming chayote decoction for three to five days there were 14 (46.7%) respondents who experienced a decrease in blood pressure. Conclusion: Ada effect of non-pharmacological therapy, namely chayote decoction in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Prembun Village. Recommendation: For further researchers should examine other factors that can be used as non-pharmacological treatment for people with hypertension.
