Abstract
Background: Asthma presented as a chronic inflammation of the airways causing airway narrowing (bronchial hyperactivity), resulting in recurrent episodic symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, especially during the night or early mornings. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze nursing care provided to asthma patients with Ineffective Breathing Pattern Nursing Problems through the implementation of Buteyko Breathing at Prof. Dr. Regional Hospital Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Method: This study involved the application of Buteyko Breathing techniques to five asthma patients, utilizing an Asthma control score questionnaire, a nursing care format, an SOP for the Buteyko Breathing Technique, an observation sheet, and an oximeter. Results: After applying Buteyko Breathing to the five patients, it was observed that all respondents initially experienced Ineffective Breathing Pattern problems. They received both pharmacological and non-pharmacological Buteyko Breathing interventions for 10-20 minutes. Subsequently, assessments were conducted before and after Buteyko Respiratory therapy. After 2x24 hours of intervention, the results showed that four respondents achieved an asthma control score of 25, indicating full control, while one respondent attained a score of 20, indicating partial control. Conclusion: This study's findings demonstrated the effectiveness of Buteyko Breathing in managing asthma, with an average asthma control score of 25, signifying complete control.
