Abstract
Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a health problem that often occurs in people around the world because the incidence rate continues to increase. The IDF (International Diabetes Federation) states that in 2019, as many as 63 million people aged 20-79 years suffer from diabetes worldwide, representing a prevalence of 9.3% of the total population in that age group. In the elderly group (65-79 years) it is estimated that the prevalence of diabetes will increase to 19.9%. The majority of diabetes mellitus (DM) cases occur in the elderly group. Because the body of the elderly has experienced changes in tolerance to glucose. DM can appear when the age is> 40 years because it is influenced by people's lifestyles, both from physical activity to eating patterns. Entering old age, diabetes occurs due to insulin resistance, lack of muscle mass and the appearance of changes in blood vessels, obesity, lack of physical activity, irregular eating patterns, regular drug intake and genetic factors. The main cause of diabetes is caused by genetics and an unhealthy lifestyle. The aim of the study: the purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the elderly at the Binangun Health Center, Cilacap Regency, in 2023. The research method: the type of research used is quantitative research using explanatory research, in order to find an explanation for the occurrence of a phenomenon. The results of this study are a picture of a causal relationship. The sample used is the entire population in the research area, namely 55 respondents. The results of the study: based on the analysis that was carried out using the chi square test, showed that physical activity was associated with diabetes mellitus in the elderly with a p value of 0.010. Dietary patterns are associated with diabetes mellitus in the elderly with a p value of 0.026. The level of stress associated with diabetes mellitus in the elderly with a p value of 0.000. And obesity is associated with diabetes mellitus in the elderly with a p value of 0.005 In conclusion: factors that can influence the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the elderly at the Binangun Health Center, Cilacap Regency in 2023 include physical activity, diet, stress levels, and obesity. Recommendations: it is hoped that future research will add variables to factors that can influence diabetes mellitus such as age, gender, heredity, race, smoking, and hypertension.
