Abstract
Background: Diuretics are substances that can increase the rate of excretion of urine volume by reducing the rate of sodium reabsorption from the tubules. Eventually, long-term use of diuretic drugs can cause side effects. Avocado (Persea Americana Mill.) and celery (Apium graveolens L.) leaves are several examples of plants that are efficacious as alternative natural diuretic agents with minimal side effects. Purposes: To determine the diuretic effect of a combination of avocado ethanol extract (Persea americanaMill.) and celery leaves (Apium graveolens L.) on male white wistar rats. Methods: This research is a experimental study with research subjects in the form of 25 male white wistar rats. Test animals were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely negative control, positive control, combination group of EEDA and EEDS at doses of 400:200, 400:400 and 800:200 mg/kgBW. This research uses the Lipschitz 1943 modified method. Treatment was given orally and urine volume was measured every 1 hour for 4 hours. Result: Giving a combination of ethanol extract of avocado leaves and celery leaves at doses of 400:200, 400:400 and 800:200 mg/kgBW was able to significantly increase the urine volume of mice with a diuretic potential value of 137%, 176%, 228% (p < 0,05). Conclusion: Avocado ethanol extract (Persea Americana Mill.) and celery (Apium graveolens L.) leaves significantly had a diuretic effect in mice with an effective dose of 800:200 mg/kgBW (p < 0.05). Recommendation: Further research needs to be done regarding diuretic testing in vitro and toxicity test of a combination of ethanol extract of avocado and celery leaves.
