Abstract
Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition that occurs when blood glucose levels rise. In Prembun Hospital in 2022, it ranked first of the 10 highest diseases, so that in diabetes mellitus patients compliance is very important to prevent complications, so research was conducted. The aim of the study was to determine the level of compliance with the use of oral diabetes mellitus drugs and to determine the relationship between patient characteristics and compliance with drug use in patients with diabetes mellitus in the 2022 period using the MARS-10 method in the outpatient installation of Prembun Hospital. Research method: Cross sectional study design was carried out by purposive sampling with a total of 85 patients. The research instrument used the MARS-10 questionnaire to determine the level of compliance with taking oral diabetes mellitus medication, analyzing the relationship between respondents' compliance using SPSS Chi square test. Research result: The characteristics of compliance with the use of diabetes mellitus drugs at Prembun Hospital are dominated by female gender, age range 46-60 years, last education elementary school, housewife work, as much as one drug with patients having co morbidities and long suffering > 3 years and income < 1 million. The results of the study obtained as many as 80 respondents had a high level of compliance, 5 respondents had low compliance. In this study there was a significant relationship with a p-value <0.05, namely in gender with a pvalue of 0.048, the number of drugs with a p-value of 0.004, co morbidities with a p-value of 0.030, long suffering with a p-value of 0.026. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the level of adherence and the characteristics of respondents with a p-value <0.05 such as gender, number of drugs, comorbidities and duration of illness. Recommendation: Future researchers to look at the relationship between the level of compliance with the effectiveness of drug used.
