Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals are typically defined as those aged over 60 years. Among the many health issues they face, hypertension is prevalent. Hypertension is characterized by systolic blood pressure exceeding 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure surpassing 90 mmHg. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2018, the global prevalence of hypertension was approximately 972 million (26.4%) individuals, and it is projected to continue rising, reaching 29% by 2025. Hence, there is a need for interventions like Benson relaxation to reduce hypertension. Objective: To describe the results of nursing care analysis for elderly individuals dealing with the nursing problem of ineffective family health management, focusing on the application of Benson Relaxation. Method: This scientific work employs a descriptive methodology with a case study approach. The study involved five elderly individuals diagnosed with hypertension. Ethical principles, particularly confidentiality, were upheld to protect the subjects' identities and related data. Results: The assessment of the clients revealed that they were elderly individuals with hypertension. The priority diagnosis was ineffective family health management. A nursing care intervention involved the application of Benson relaxation to lower blood pressure. As a result, all five respondents experienced a decrease in systolic blood pressure by an average of 16 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by 8 mmHg. Recommendation: For future research, it is advisable to explore the influence of Benson relaxation on lowering blood pressure in the elderly further.
