Abstract
Background: Heavy smokers often found in respondents who experience moderate levels of stress (27.3%) compared with respondents who experienced mild stress level (5.6%). There is a significant association between stress levels with the level of smoking behavior with r = 0.656 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05), which means that the weight of student stress, the stronger the urge to smoke. Objective: Knowing the correlation between stress and smoking behavior in young men in the village Candirenggo Ayah. Methode: This research is a quantitative research using descriptive design correlations with Case Control approach. The population of this study were male teenagers in Candirenggo village, Ayah. There were 62 respondents as the samples taken by Purposive Sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Chi Square test. Result: Results of research on the 62 respondents, smoking groups to the level of stress in 10 respondents (32.3%), while the group did not smoke with the level of stress one respondent (3.2%). From the test results obtained X2hitung chi square statistic = 10.745 and p = 0.005. By using a 5% level of confidence, (df) X2tabel at 5.991. Now where X2hitung> X2tabel (10.745> 5.991), then Ho is rejected mean there is a relationship between stress levels and smoking behavior in adolescent boys. Conclusion: There is a relationship between stress levels and smoking behavior in young men in the village Candirenggo Ayah.
