Abstract
Background: A laparotomy is an operation performed to open the abdomen. A laparotomy is a form of major surgery that involves making incisions in the layers of the abdominal wall to get to the part of the organ that is experiencing problems (hemorrhage, perforation, cancer, and obstruction). The problem that often arises in patients after laparotomy surgery is usually acute pain. Acute pain is a sensory or emotional experience associated with actual or functional tissue damage. Pain management with non-pharmacological measures is a method that is simpler, cheaper, more practical, and without adverse effects. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used is aromatherapy. Objective: To analyze nursing care for post-laparotomy patients with acute pain nursing problems by administering lemon aromatherapy in the ICU room at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This scientific paper uses a descriptive case study with a case study approach. The instruments used are observation sheets and pain scale measurement instruments using the NRS (Numeric Rating Scale). The subjects consisted of five post-laparotomy patients with acute pain nursing problems. Results: the results of the application carried out on the five post-laparotomy patients experiencing acute pain nursing problems. After being given the implementation of nursing by administering lemon aromatherapy, all patients experienced a significant reduction in pain scale. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to research the use of lemon aromatherapy to reduce acute pain in other types of medical diagnoses.
