Abstract

Background: The prevalence of women in labor who experience an episiotomy during childbirth in Indonesia in the 25-30 year age group is 24%, while in birth mothers aged 31-39 years it is 62% (Widia, 2017). In 2013, of a total of 1951 spontaneous vaginal births, 57% of mothers received perineal sutures, 28% due to episiotomy and 29% due to spontaneous tears. Episiotomy wounds will cause pain in post-partum mothers. Objective: to be able to provide an overview of the application of nursing care to spontaneous post partum mothers with episiotomy wound pain by administering ice packs in the Flamboyan room at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Methods: using quantitative research, the method used is a descriptive method which will provide an overview of the variables. In this study there were 5 respondents, when administering ice packs, the respondents observed the level of pain before and after the procedure, the action was carried out for 2 days, twice every day and the administration time was 15 minutes. Results: the main nursing problem in this case study is acute pain by providing innovative ice pack therapy to reduce pain. Implementations that have been carried out include conducting assessments, identifying location, characteristics, duration, frequency, quality, intensity and scale of pain, monitoring TTV, followed by measuring the pain scale using the NRS (Numeric Rating Scale) before carrying out non-pharmacological therapeutic measures, then providing ice pack therapy. The evaluation is carried out regarding acute pain by observing the level of pain felt by the mother. Recommendations: The results of the analysis show that ice pack therapy has an effect on reducing pain in spontaneous post partum mothers with episiotomy wounds with the results obtained that 3 respondents with moderate pain decreased to mild and 2 respondents with severe pain decreased to moderate, so that non-pharmacological therapy is effective in helping reduce pain in mother.
