Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a common chronic disease in the elderly. Acute pain is one of the complications that can occur in the elderly with hypertension. Nursing intervention that can be done to reduce acute pain in the elderly with hypertension is warm compress therapy. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of warm compress therapy in reducing acute pain in elderly people with hypertension. Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The research subjects were 5 elderly people with hypertension who experienced acute pain. The research instruments are nursing care formats, Nursing Kits, and action innovation SOPs. Results: The results of the assessment conducted on hypertensive clients obtained data on the main complaint that was felt was acute pain in both the head and neck. The priority nursing diagnosis for hypertensive clients is acute pain related to disease (hypertension). Intervention and implementation of nursing carried out, namely assessing the pain scale, measuring vital signs, giving warm compresses to reduce pain. The results of nursing evaluations on 5 clients showed that the acute pain problem was resolved with a decrease in pain levels 2-4 scale. Provision of warm compresses to elderly hypertensives is effective in reducing signs and symptoms of acute pain in Gebangsari Village, Klirong District Conclusion: Warm compress therapy is an effective nursing intervention in reducing acute pain in elderly people with hypertension. Recommendation: Based on the results of this study, it is recommended to make standard SOPs for innovations in warm compress therapy for the elderly with hypertension. This SOP can be used by nurses as a reference in providing effective and safe nursing interventions
