Abstract

Background Nausea and vomiting are the most commonly encountered side effects in cancer patients after undergoing chemotherapy. The use of aromatherapy with ginger essential oil may be considered as an option for treating nausea and vomiting in cancer patients after chemotherapy. Ginger contains zingiberene (zingirona), zingiberol, bisabolene, curcumin, zingiberol, phlandrene, as well as vitamin A. These compounds have the ability to inhibit the activity of serotonin, a neurotransmitter produced in serotonergic neurons in the central nervous system and enterochromaffin cells. This effect can provide a sense of comfort and help alleviate the sensation of nausea and vomiting. Objective To explain nursing care with the use of ginger aromatherapy for postchemotherapy cancer patients with the nursing problem of nausea Methods This research method utilizes a case study approach. Through this type of research, it is possible to provide a comprehensive and detailed description of a condition or object under investigation. Nursing Care Outcomes Based on the intervention of implementing ginger aromatherapy on post-chemotherapy cancer patients experiencing nausea and vomiting, a reduction in the level of nausea and vomiting was observed. The majority of patients, prior to receiving ginger aromatherapy, experienced moderate levels of nausea and vomiting, while after receiving the ginger aromatherapy intervention, the majority experienced mild levels of nausea and vomiting. Conclusion Ginger aromatherapy has been proven to reduce the level of nausea and vomiting experienced by cancer patients after undergoing chemotherapy Recommendation It is hoped that ginger aromatherapy can be applied to reduce the level of nausea and vomiting in post-chemotherapy cancer patients.
