Abstract

Background: Systolic blood pressure exceeding 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure exceeding 90 mmHg result in increased blood vessel pressure. The management of headache pain in hypertension patients involves complementary therapy known as Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT). Objectives: To explain nursing care for hypertension patients experiencing acute pain in the emergency room of Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Hospital in Purwokerto. Methods: This research employed a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of five adult patients with hypertension. The case study instrument utilized the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for SEFT therapy and observation sheets both before and after the administration of SEFT therapy. Results: The results of the interventions applied to the five patients showed that all of them experienced acute pain problems. They were provided with interventions, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological SEFT therapy, for three sessions over 24 hours. The therapy was administered when the patients experienced pain, and they reported a change in their headache pain after receiving SEFT therapy. Subsequently, observations were conducted before and after the therapy. Following the application of the therapy for three sessions over 24 hours to all five patients, it was found that there was a decrease in pain scale scores in each patient, with the pain scale rating dropping below 5. There was no observed anxiety; the patients appeared calm, and their blood pressure decreased. Recommendation: The results of this research suggest that these findings can be applied to patients with acute pain complaints in order to reduce pain nonpharmacologically.
