Abstract

Background: The hormones involved in this type of contraception are estrogen, progesterone, and a combination of the two. Hormonal birth control is most commonly used by women of childbearing age for a period of more than 2 years. One of the side effects of hormonal birth control is the emergence of hypertension. Objective: This research aims to determine the relationship between the use of hormonal birth control and hypertension in PMB Titin Sugiarti. Research method: This research uses descriptive analytical research with a cross sectional approach. Sample for this study was 64 hormonal birth control acceptors at PMB Titin Sugiarti, taken using simple random sampling. The instrument in the research used a questionnaire. The data processing technique uses statistical tests using Chi Square correlation ρ= <0.05 Research Results: The research results showed that the majority of women of vulnerable childbearing age aged 21-30 years (33%) used hormonal contraceptives, the majority of respondents used hormonal contraceptives, namely 3-month injectable contraceptives (60.9%) of respondents. 1 month of injectable birth control (28.1%) of respondents, with an average use of hormonal birth control > 2 years (68.8%) of respondents. Those who experienced hypertension were 25 (39.1%) respondents. Conclusion: The results of this study found a relationship between the use of hormonal birth control and hypertension in PMB Titin Sugiarti where the ρ value was <0.05, namely 0.02. Recommendation: it is necessary to carry out other research to develop different research between the factors of diet, smoking and obesity.
