Abstract
Background : Hypertension is one of the most frequent chronic disorders in the world. Hypertension can lead to a variety of significant problems, including stroke, heart disease, and renal failure. Isometric handgrip exercise is a sort of physical activity that can help decrease blood pressure. This exercise is performed by holding onto the handgrip for a few seconds. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of isometric handgrip exercise in reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients at KRT Setjonegoro Hospital, Wonosobo. Methods: This study employs a two-group pretest-posttest design. The first group participated in an isometric handgrip exercise, while the second group did not. The type of instrument used in this study is the measurement of blood pressure before and after exercise with a Mercury Sphygmomanometer. Results: The results of this study revealed a significant reduction in blood pressure in both systole and diastole. This reduction was 7.1 mmHg in systole and 8.6 mmHg in diastole. The control group had no significant reduction in blood pressure, including systole and diastole, with systole at 0.8 mmHg and diastole at 0.8 mmHg. Conclusion: Isometric Handgrip Exercise is effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients. Recommendation: IHE should be integrated into the hypertension treatment program at KRT Setjonegoro Hospital in Wonosobo
