Abstract
Background: Red belt leaf ( Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) is one of the plants that has antioxidant activity because it contains flavonoid compounds. Research objectives: To make an antioxidant cream scrub preparation from red belt leaf ( Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) using the DPPH method ( 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil ) which can be formulated as an active ingredient in cream scrub preparations to help maintain healthy skin. Research method: The three formulas with different variations of triethanolamine, namely F1 2%, F2 3% and F3 4% were tested for their physical properties with organoleptic test parameters, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability and adhesion. From these test parameters, F1 with 2% triethanolamine as a formula with good physical test was then tested for DPPH ( 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil ). Results: The results of this study showed that F1 had strong antioxidant activity with a value of 67.56 ppm, vitamin C as a positive control had very strong antioxidant activity with an IC 50 value of 49.93 ppm and cream scrub base as a negative control had weak antioxidant activity. with an IC 50 value of 250.8 ppm. Conclusion: The cream scrub formula of 90% ethanol extract of red belt leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav.) has an IC50 value of 67.56 ppm which is a strong antioxidant activity. Recommendation: It is necessary to do a hedonic test to determine the panelists' preference for a product.
