Abstract
Background: Elderly nurses in Japan (care workers) have very high duties and responsibilities towards older people; apart from that, socio-cultural differences cause a very high risk of experiencing stress. Objective: This research aims to determine the relationship between stress levels of Indonesian elderly nurses in Japan. Method: The research method used is quantitative research with a correlational research design using a cross-sectional approach. The population used in this research were all Indonesian citizens who worked in Japan as caregivers for older people (Careworkers) for the EPA Batch 10 program, totalling 320 people. Based on the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 5%, it is known that the number of samples in this study was 177 people, and the sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Data collection was carried out by distributing the Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised (OSIR) questionnaire to collect data regarding stress levels and the Brief COPE questionnaire to compile data regarding coping mechanisms to respondents, which were then analyzed univariately, describing characteristics and bivariate using the Spearman Rank test. Results: The results of the research showed that the work stress level of Indonesian Elderly Nurse respondents in Japan found that the majority of respondents were in the moderate stress category. The coping strategies of Indonesian Elderly Nurse respondents in Japan found that the majority of respondents were Problem-Focused Coping (89.83%), Emotion-Focused Coping (8.47%) and Avoidant Coping (1.69%). The relationship between coping mechanisms and the level of work stress of Indonesian elderly nurses in Japan obtained a value of sig = 0.000 with α = 0.05 and a correlation coefficient of 0.620 Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of work stress and the coping mechanisms of Indonesian elderly nurses in Japan with a strong group of relationships. Recommendation: It is hoped that it can be used as a reference and provide information regarding handling work stress.
