Abstract
Background: Postpartum is the period after childbirth that encompasses the recovery phase until the uterus returns to its pre-pregnancy state. Complaints experienced by mothers during the postpartum period include discomfort in the perineum due to tears in the birth canal. Management of postpartum discomfort can involve the use of deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage. Objective: Describing nursing care through the administration of a combination therapy of deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage for postpartum mothers experiencing the nursing issue of discomfort. Method: This research applies a combination of deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage to postpartum mothers, with a sample size of 5 respondents, using a case instrument in the format of nursing care, along with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage. The study was conducted from January to June 2023 at Dr. Prof. Margono Soekarjo General Hospital. Results: The application of a combination of deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage to the five patients resulted in all respondents experiencing postpartum discomfort. They were provided with deep breathing relaxation and effleurage massage. Then, they were observed before and after the procedure. After the intervention, which lasted for 1x24 hours, all five respondents experienced a decrease in discomfort. Conclusion: The results of this study can be applied to postpartum mothers experiencing postpartum discomfort to provide comfort during the postpartum period.
